In honor of World Water Day, volunteers from America Free Zone (AFZ) removed more than 1,000 kilograms of non-traditional waste and debris from the Burío River in Heredia, Costa Rica.
Discarded items such as mattresses, appliances, tires, washing machines, and wood were extracted from the waterway, significantly improving the river’s condition and surrounding ecosystem.
Beyond waste removal, the initiative aimed to raise awareness about the importance of preserving water resources for future generations.
“In observance of World Water Day, AFZ reaffirms its commitment to protecting and conserving this vital resource,” said Gabriela Arias, Environmental Manager at AFZ. “From implementing water efficiency practices across our operations to promoting environmental education among our employees and communities, we actively contribute to responsible water management. Through tangible actions and awareness, we strive to make a positive impact on water conservation.”
This effort forms part of AFZ’s broader environmental strategy, reinforcing its role as a corporate citizen dedicated to sustainability and community well-being.
