AFZ continues to invest in the educational and professional development of the 250 employees who support its operations. Over the past year, 86% of its workforce participated in various training and development programs.
One of its key initiatives is “Crecemos Educación,” a program that has helped 18 employees complete their primary or secondary education. The program provides full scholarships covering instruction, educational materials, and examination fees required by Costa Rica’s Ministry of Public Education (MEP).
Among the program’s beneficiaries is Marcelo Carballo Castro, a resident of Santa Bárbara de Heredia, who joined Zona Franca América in 2016 and decided to resume his education in 2019.
Despite the challenges brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, Carballo completed ninth grade in 2023 and earned his high school diploma in 2025 at the age of 44. This year, he began pursuing a degree in Electromechanical Engineering while continuing his work as a technical specialist in special systems.
